Using a Tee – The Basics

Training with a tee is essential for all baseball players, regardless of experience. Here’s why it works:

  • It helps players focus on proper hitting mechanics without the distraction of a moving ball.
  • It builds muscle memory, which is crucial for consistent hitting.
    Start by placing the tee slightly ahead of home plate, simulating where the ball would be at contact. Focus on hitting the ball squarely, aiming for line drives.

Tee Tip: Practice hitting the ball to all parts of the field — right, center, and left. This will improve your bat control and ability to handle various pitches.

Tee Drill: Opposite Field Hitting
One of the most effective drills you can do is practice hitting to the opposite field.

Set up the tee so that it’s lined up with the inside part of your back leg.

Focus on keeping your hands inside the ball and driving the ball to the opposite field.

This drill helps develop bat control and helps hitters stay balanced and adjust to outside pitches.
